Looking back, Reid and I both keep reminiscing on how much “love” we felt that day. To be completely honest, I was never the girl who had her whole wedding planned years in advance, yet when the day came, it was better than I could have ever dreamed. Our wedding ceremony was held at my Grandmother’s Church in Waxahachie. A building and town that means so much to me. I grew up in that church, my mother and two of her sisters were married there, and the entire town packed the pews for my Grandfather’s funeral there as well. Our ceremony felt blessed by the history of the building and was beautifully lit through the stained-glass windows at sunset. My grandmother is also my favorite person in the world, and this felt like a tribute to her. Reid and I were very picky about reception venues, feeling like most that we toured felt too business-like and ultimately not “us.” So, we dove headfirst in creating our unique venue. This decision wound up being incredibly challenging. But oh, so worth it. Our reception was held at the English Merchant’s Inn, a boutique hotel owned by one of my mother’s friends. This charming, eclectic, and historic house on Main Street perfectly captured the town’s warmth, charm, and history.
My bridesmaids and I stayed at the inn all weekend which made it easy and fun to pitch in on preparations. Our reception was mostly outdoors, with a dance floor and tables on the side lawn under string lights. Guests explored the grounds with the bar on the front yard, photo booth and buffet on the wrap-around porch, and seating areas by the fire inside the house. Our favorite part of the night was our incredible band that had everyone on the dance floor. The whole event felt like a labor of love from friends and family. Some vendors were family members (my brother’s girlfriend was our florist, and my uncle drove us away in his ’65 Thunderbird.). Any non-family vendors wound up feeling like family by the end. The band even joined us for our after-party at a different location. Lastly, we couldn’t have ordered better weather for this outdoor reception. Guests keep commenting on what a magical night it was with perfect weather. We feel that God and Reid’s late mother ordained that for us.
